Magnitude 5.1 earthquake rumbles deep under waters north of Nelson


The magnitude-5.1 quake was centred under the seabed north of Nelson.
A magnitude 5.1 quake has struck deep under the seabed north of Nelson.
Geonet said the 8.50am Thursday quake was centred 50km north west of French Pass at a depth of 110km.
It received more than 1,000 reports from people who felt the quake, mostly light or weak shaking in the lower North Island and upper South Island.
