A reservoir is just over half full following a "prolonged" period of hot and dry weather.
Hanningfield Reservoir, between Chelmsford and Wickford is just 52% full according to operators Essex and Suffolk Water (ESW), who said they do not expect significant rainfall until October.
In August, the firm implemented its first hosepipe ban in almost 30 years, describing the situation as "very unusual".
ESW, which also owns Abberton Reservoir, said their total water supply has dropped by a quarter since June, from 83% to 57%.
Currently, most of Essex is prohibited from using a hosepipe with Affinity Water and Anglian Water also introducing restrictions.
Iran has called for the release of three pilots it said were captured by Qatar after two of its fighter jets were hit by air defences during a military operation at the start of the US-Iran war.

The UK, they added, was "committed to providing the equipment Ukraine needs to defend itself against [Russian President Vladimir] Putin's illegal invasion".
The warning comes amid reports of Russia and Ukraine exchanging another barrage of attacks overnight on Monday into Tuesday.
Built by two separate British companies, the drones in question have been used inside Russia in the widespread and successful targeting of military and industrial targets, including refineries and warehouses of the online retailer Wildberries.

A hosepipe ban has been extended to affect more residents in Essex following continued hot and dry weather.
Affinity Water has now included the Tendring Peninsula in its Temporary Use Ban, which already covers parts of west Essex, as well as Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Surrey, and areas of London.
The extension affects the CO7, CO11, CO12, CO13, CO14, CO15, CO16 postcodes across towns such as Clacton, Manningtree and Harwich.

Yahya Saree says Saudi amphibious transport ship and accompanying vessels were successfully struck in combined drone, missile attack
Yemen’s Ansar Allah group, also known as the Houthis, claimed Monday that its forces had targeted several Saudi naval vessels – along with a weapons depot – in a wide-ranging missile and drone barrage.
In a statement posted on Telegram, Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree said a Saudi amphibious transport ship and several accompanying naval vessels had been successfully struck in an aerial attack involving “a number of” ballistic missiles
Describing the missile strike as “precise,” Saree said that several of the targeted ships had been sunk – while the rest had caught fire – as a result of the attack.
Houthi forces also targeted a Saudi weapons depot in the Sahn al-Jin camp, located in Yemen’s central-eastern Marib province, with multiple drones, the spokesman added.
As of publication, the claims had not yet been confirmed by the Saudi authorities.
In 2014, the Iran-backed Houthis overran much of the country, including Yemen’s capital, Sanaa.
This was followed by several years of war between the Houthis and Yemeni government forces backed by a Saudi-led coalition.
Since the eruption of the Israel-Gaza conflict in 2023, the Houthis have become increasingly involved in regional hostilities, carrying out missile attacks on Israel and Israel-linked commercial shipping in the Red Sea.
